Research Consortium Annual Network Meeting

The Oncology Research Consortium consists of 700-community-based oncologists (including some radiation oncologists) geographically located in 25 states. The physicians are provided the opportunity to conduct clinical research in their local community. Primarily, these sites participate in our investigator-initiated studies, which offer innovative new treatments for patients. Since its inception in 1993, approximately 20,000 patients have been enrolled in these investigator-initiated studies. This work makes it possible for thousands of cancer patients to participate in research studies close to home. To date, hundreds of articles have been published in peer-reviewed journals that were authored or co-authored by our Consortium Physicians

The Research Consortium facilitates rapid enrollment of patients to trials resulting in faster development of new treatment options. The trial menu includes Phase II and III studies. Sites are offered trials in a variety of cancer types through a feasibility process. Our Consortium Operations Team works closely with these sites from study start up to trial closure.

Most sites, with the exception of the six groups that make up the “strategic sites,” have  a non-exclusive contract with SCRI corporate. Each Consortium network site has a designated principal investigator, sub-investigators and dedicated research staff in place to assist with protocol adherence, data collection, regulatory and safety compliance.

In summary, the  Research Consortium consists of:

  • 7 strategic sites
  • 700 Physicians
  • 25 states
